It’s the earliest Spring in my memory. The soil temp in my garden is telling me it’s time to plant Tomato seedlings. 15C+, it’s never been ready in August before. And it’s not just in my garden.
By the time August arrived, his caravan was removed from the top of his hill by the wind. He departed shortly afterwards, being replaced several times by owners attempting the same feat.
The only offerings were from commercial nurseries around sea level. Canberra and surrounds received seedlings from Sydney mostly, and if you were lucky, they may have come from Albury at 165m.
When it comes to removing old plants from the garden, my preferred method is Stumping. Grab your secateurs and cut the plant off at the base of the stem, maybe 50mm above the mulch.
Potatoes are one of my favourite vegetables. Mash ‘em, bake ‘em, fry them, I only mention this because my Potato Draw has been talking to me,
I suggested Spring might arrive early again this year. In my neck of the ‘Wood, it’s got all the hallmarks of Spring. It might not be happening in your microclimate just yet, but it’s not far off.
